It's the end of an era!!

I really lucked out with my roommates. When I decided to move to Salt Lake, Tara was the first person I called for a room to rent and I didn't look any further. It was probably the best decision I have made in a long time. All my roommates, Tara, Darby and Danielle become such good friends to me. I've been there since August of 07, and now, it's the end of an era! Tara and I practically got engaged at the same time (not to each other), and since it's her house everyone needs to be out by the end of July when she gets married. It's coming to quickly!! While I'm happy to be getting married, I'm going to miss having those girls around to laugh with and say stupid stuff around! They were such a cure-all for any emotional ailment. I'd leave every conversation laughing! But now, Darby and Danielle, are moving out with Darby's twin sister Dallin this weekend and it will just be me and Tara....well basically just Tara because it's not like I'm ever home anyway. I'm going to really miss the food that Danielle would make and her shallow remarks towards the Mormons and ugly people. I'm going to miss Darby's sense of humor a TON!! Everything that comes out of her mouth makes me laugh hysterically. Chilli!! I'm going to miss Tara's rationality and her singing voice. It's so lovely. Oh and I can't forget the carmelita! I'm going to miss them maybe the most. Anyway, to any chick on green street that may be reading this... I love your guts!

Wedding Plan Update

I'm really hoping that marriage number one sticks because I'm never planning another wedding again. In fact, I'm going to have only boys for that very reason. Well everything is basically in place! July 11th is only 22 days away! The reception is going to be at the Eddy's house. I grew up with them and Karen has always had the most emaculate yard, and it's only become more beautiful! My bridals are in a week, I go to the Temple on the 7th, and my first shower is on Saturday. I'm not going to lie, I'm really excited about the presents. Birthday's and Christmas' have become so boring because all I get is an envelope. It's like a bonus for living one more year or something. So for the first time in a long time I get to unwrap stuff! I hope that doesn't sound selfish at all...it's just the truth. Gary and I are really excited to get all this over with though. Once we're married we are going to head south to St. George for a small pre-honey moon. The real one won't take place until October when we'll go back east to New York and DC and Vermont and such. I wanted to wait until the fall because I have wanted to see the fall leaves in Connecticut for ages. Hopefully we'll be able to catch a broadway as well! I'd really like to see Wicked. Anyway, things are just moving right along for us!!

The Proposal

In one month....July 11th....Gary and I are getting married! YAY!!! I'm so excited. How about I tell you the story of the proposal? Things went very fast for us, but like everyone says, "when you know, you know." And we just knew. Actually July 11th is our 6 month anniversary. So fast. Anyway the proposal. So Gary loves to golf and he has been trying to teach me and get me involved with it too, which I actually enjoy. It was April 12th that he took me to the Bountiful Ridge Golf Course, and that was actually one of the day's that wasn't freezing. I think it was only the 2nd hole that Gary mentioned he wanted to take the golf cart up the mountain a ways to a place where we could tee off. So we went up there, and the view was incredible! Behind us was the mountain, in front of us was the valley, off to the right we could see the Bountiful Temple (where we're getting married) and out to our left was the golf course. We were really enjoying the moment and I was a little mad because I was thinking "stupid Gary needs to propose right now!" So before I hit the ball, about 5 deer came down the mountain and onto the golf course, right where I was going to hit my ball. It was perfect! I almost wonder if he had someone watching the herd and then releasing them at that moment. Moving on. He had my ball and tee, knelt down to put it in place, and switched the ball out for the ring. And then he proposed! He claims I didn't say yes to him, but I think actions speak louder than words because I was jumping up and down and laughing and I shoved the ring on my hand!! And as a surprise element, his best friend Neil was hiding up the mountain video taping the whole thing, so we got to relive the moment again...and again. Well, I'm just over the moon happy. Gary is wonderful and if he were writing this, he would say how wonderful I am too.

Dating a Squirrel

I'm sure that everyone has gotten one of those emails where they answer a series of questions to determine their Star Trek name, their super hero name, and their soap opera name. (If you haven't, you're not missing much.) Well I went through the email and come to find out my super hero name is White Squirrel. I love squirrels! And also, one of my favorite movies is Blades of Glory, which happens to feature a squirrel named Gary! Coincidence? I think not! So here I am, a squirrel, dating another squirrel, and I'm thinking, what could be more perfect? Now we can have little squirrel babies!!

Anyway, I kind of wanted to touch base on my and Gary's dating adventures. The first date was lots of fun, and as a result I couldn't sleep well because I was in such deep smit. Date number two was definitely and big fat warning sign that we were MFEO! (made for each other). It was over a heavenly slice of cheesecake at the Chili's restaurant that kind of sealed the deal. At least for me. Then it was either date number 4 that the "L" word was uttered....one week after date number 1. I said it first!! Ha ha! I only said it because I knew that he felt the same way…I've never been the first to say it before. And it just so happens that he loved me too! Still does as a matter of fact.

Well, during this time we had lots and lots of fun getting to know each other. We went to concerts, he taught me to golf, we traveled to St. George a couple times to visit family on both sides, bowled a bit (the weirdo has his own ball and shoes), went to LOTS of movies, went hiking, took bike rides, went to the gym together, watched American Idol religiously, followed the Jazz games very closely, spent lots of time with family (I love his family!) did homework and read together, made some pretty cool dinners (well….he mostly did those). We figured out what makes the other laugh which I think has resulted in us being a pretty random and wacky couple. I could list a lot of things Gary has done to make me laugh, but I won't embarrass him like that.

And EXACTLY three months from our first date, he took me on one very special date where he proposed! That's a story all on it's own! I'll save it for next time.

How We Met

My mom called me one day wondering if it would be okay if she gave my phone number to a lady at work and have her son call me for a date. She had talked about setting me up with all types of guys but this was the first time she acted upon it. I didn't have a big problem with it so I said "okay but only if his name isn't Otis and he's neutered." Then she told me I was weird and that was that. Well I got home from work that same day, checked my email, checked my Facebook, and had a new friend request. Gary Fifield. I had never heard his name before in my life. I checked out his pictures and I was like "huh, this guy is NOT ugly." So I went to accept him as my friend and added a note as to how we knew each other. I think I was trying to impress him with my random humor, so here is how we met.

We both have the same dry cleaner and our pants got switched, so we had to meet up with no pants on to swap clothes. From there it's all history.

And that is why we now refer to each other as Marci Pants and Gary Pants. I think so anyway. Next thing I know I have a text message saying "This is Gary, I'm not neutered, but I'd like to take you out." Then I figured out he was Facebook boy and felt a little stupid about the comment I made. But we set up a date and time for our first date and ended up having lots and lots of fun. It wasn't obvious on the first date that we were madly in love. We had to wait for date number 2.

But I want to give a little background of the set up. You see, my mom and dad were high school sweethearts, and they went to school with Gary's dad, who dated my mom's best friend. (but really he had a pretty big crush on my mom.) And all these years later, my mom ended up working with Gary's mom, and they became BFF. They talked about their kids all the time, and the more they talked, the more they started to think that maybe it would be a good idea to set the 2 of us up. They didn't do anything about it for months though. I was getting over a pretty bad break up, and they didn't want to risk anything hurting their friendship. But then it just became too obvious that their kids were made for each other. And turns out they are!

In The Beginning

I'm not certain what happened to my other blog, it always seemed to have glitches and got deleted somehow. So I thought that I would create a family blog for Gary and I, seeing as how it won't just be me in about a month! Stay tuned!
